    What is a “Performance” part?

Performance parts are fun! At least this is the short version of it. Performance parts are made to serve a specific purpose. When most people think about performance parts, they refer to a new exhaust system for a Camaro or Mustang, or even an intake kit for a Corvette. This is absolutely true, but doesn’t tell the entire story. Performance parts are available for almost any application out there from rock climbing jeeps, to drag racing muscle cars, all the way to trucks built for towing. Performance doesn’t just refer to racing parts, it refers to anything that is more demanding than what the OEM manufacturer intended. Even gas mileage can be considered a performance upgrade.

    Benefits of Performance Parts

Check  The most obvious benefit from a performance part is better performance! The question lines in what that really means. Many performance parts increase horsepower, responsiveness, etc. What is not as well known is the fact that many performance parts can help improve towing, breaking, and even gas mileage!

Check  Aftermarket parts are designed for a specific purpose. This gives them the ability to have fantastic quality for what they are trying to do. While an OEM or aftermarket supplier must build a part that has to operate under any number of unknown conditions, a performance supplier can be more focused. This allows them to put all of their efforts into one area instead of spreading them out. This can result in a better part when considering the specific intended use of the vehicle.

Check  Performance parts can be a great amount of fun! Normally when someone is purchasing a part, they either have a broken vehicle or are spending money to keep their vehicle in working order. Performance parts are different. When purchase a performance part, most users are upgrading the capability of their car or truck and it can be a fun and exciting time. Adding a new exhaust system to your hot rod or lowering your truck is about as good as it gets for some people!

    Disadvantages of Performance Parts

X  Performance parts are great but they can be expensive! These parts are built for people looking to get the most out of their vehicle. From mud trucks to drag cars, these parts have to hold up to a lot of abuse. This can mean that the development and testing costs for these parts are higher and this cost is passed along to the customers. Most people find that this additional cost is worthwhile given the performance gains that they experience.

X  When people think about performance parts, they tend to assume that they are better in every way. This is not the case. Performance parts are designed to improve upon the OEM part, but usually this means increasing performance in one area while sacrificing in another. In some cases this may not matter to the customer, but in others it can have dangerous results. For example… If you were to use certain performance racing brake pads on your daily driving vehicle, you could have trouble stopping at speeds under 35 MPH. Needless to say, this could be dangerous for everyone involved!
